About
“Clay has always played a significant and vital part in my life. It is a grounding and therapeutic force which connects us directly to the earth and our inner emotions.”
Rebecca Maynard is a sculptor who specialises in figurative ceramics, producing stoneware artworks that explore the intricacies of the human condition and evoke moments of contemplation and intimacy. Constantly exploring new ideas she has also recently been producing a variety of head and animal sculptures for the garden. Each piece is sculpted from stoneware clay, she then emphasises the materials inherent texture and her distinctive mark-making through the considered application of coloured oxides.
Rebecca began her creative clay journey at school and went on to study ceramics at Central St. Martins School of art graduating with a first-class honours degree in 3-dimensional design. Her innovative sculptural creations have been featured in exhibitions at the Victoria and Albert Museum and at various galleries across the United Kingdom.
She works from her studio overlooking the beautiful Borne Valley in Hampshire and runs regular workshops in the local area.
